We are in Škaljari, at the foot of the Bay of Kotor — close enough to walk into the old town, far enough to sleep through the summer nights. Kotor sits at the end of Europe's deepest natural bay, walled since the Venetians and listed by UNESCO, with the mountain rising straight up behind it.
What makes it an easy base is how tightly the coast is packed. Tivat and its airport are fifteen minutes around the bay. Perast, Porto Montenegro, Portonovi and Luštica Bay are all half an hour or less. You can have breakfast in a medieval square, swim off a quiet beach in the afternoon, and be back for dinner without a long drive.
